About Me

01. Professional Background

I am a Counselling Psychologist with 10 years of professional experience in the field of psychology and have been in full-time private practice since 2023. I completed my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of the Free State in 2018, followed by my internship at the Unit for Professional Training and Services in the Behavioural Sciences (UNIBS), a university-based psychological training clinic providing therapeutic and assessment services to diverse client populations.

02. Clinical Experience and Areas of Focus

Over the course of my career, I have worked across private higher education, neurodiversity assessment and support services, and addiction treatment settings. These roles have involved working with adolescents, young adults, and adults navigating emotional difficulties, academic and career challenges, identity questions, and complex life transitions. My work in neurodiversity includes supporting autistic individuals and those with attention-related differences through assessment, psychoeducation, and therapeutic intervention, with a strong focus on affirming and strengths-based care. I particularly enjoy working with adolescents and young adults navigating identity development, career direction, and life transitions, as well as adults on the autism spectrum seeking deeper self-understanding later in life.

03. Therapeutic Approach and Professional Registration

Clients often describe my therapeutic style as warm, grounded, and containing. I work from an integrative therapeutic approach, drawing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), with a strong interest in Narrative Therapy. Narrative Therapy holds that people are not defined by their problems, allowing therapy to become a collaborative process of understanding experiences, reshaping limiting narratives, and reconnecting with personal strengths and values. At the heart of my work is creating a calm and respectful space where clients feel heard and supported in making sense of their experiences, developing insight, and moving toward greater clarity and self-understanding. I am registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the United Kingdom, ensuring adherence to internationally recognised professional and ethical standards. As Michael White observed, "The person is not the problem; the problem is the problem."
